FIELD REPORT from HELP/Nepal (Kathmandu)

Sunday, 11th October 2009.
(Week 2 of October 2009).
1. HAMRO GHAR:
The weekly meeting for “Hamro Ghar” staff members took place today on Sunday, 11th October 2009 at 03:00 PM. Members present were Luigi, Sharmila, Deepak, Kailash, Sujata, Sabitri, Shanta, Sarala, Radhika, Srijana and Anima. The following are the updates:
- Education:
Herald school is still closed for Dashain and Tihar festival. However, children are regular with their studies at HG, doing their assignments. Also, non-formal classes could not be conducted due to renovation of HG but it will be conducted from this week. However, tuition, football training and yoga classes are running smoothly.
- Vocational Training:
The vocational training couldn’t be conducted due to the renovation of HG and also, all women had not returned from their homes after Dashain. Sabitri with her team of sewing professionals are busy with stitching new clothes (shirts and pants) for boys. They had completed stitching 20 shirts, while they need to complete stitching remaining shirts and pants for all. Sabitri says that it would take at least two weeks for the clothes to be completely done for boys. However, there is need to buy fabrics, as the fabrics was not sufficient for 9 boys. Also, they are mending old clothes for children.
- Food:
Children are having their meals on-time. Kitchen is maintained regularly.
- Health and Hygiene:
Children are all fine and healthy so far and medical clinic reports that this week no any children suffered from ailments.

- Security and Discipline:
All students are doing well and maintaining discipline. Both Boys-section and Girls-section are maintaining discipline and are keeping their room neat and tidy.
- Maintenance:
The painting of HG is still continuing. The painting of interior rooms has been done and now the painting of HG from exterior has to be done. Changing of sewage pipe and maintenance of sewage tank and hot water system have not been done yet. The building of 3 bath-rooms in new building is still continuing.
- Other Updates:
On 10th October, our Pashupati Lions participated in the football match. Our children played very well. However, they couldn’t win the game and got defeated by our challenger APC on penalty by 1 goal. The football match was organised by CPCS in coordination with other NGOs working on children in Nepal. CWIN, Concern, APC, CPCS, Sath-Sath and VOC were other NGOs who took part in the match.
Rajani Chand and Kanchan Rana, members of “Art of Living” provided refreshments for all children. They also provided old toys for our children.

As per advice of Luigi, general health condition of all children and staffs will be checked before our medical team leaves for upcoming camp.
- 2. MISCELLANEOUS
For Shahid Gangalal project, screening of applications submitted to our office is going on.
Our new volunteers, Sara Salvatori and Luca Bicocchi are here in HELP/Nepal.
